Conditions

Modern clinical hypnotherapists use hypnosis for medical purposes and as an aid for the resolution of many problems of psychological origin.

It is estimated that approximately 85% of the people of all age groups will readily respond to clinical hypnotherapy; and it is often successful when other more conventional methods of treatment have failed.

Hypnotherapy is completely safe and there are no harmful side effects. When administered by a professionally trained and skilled hypnotherapist the benefits are long lasting and often permanent.

Follow the above navigation links to see just some of the conditions for which hypnotherapy is indicated as a practical treatment

Anxiety

Anxiety appears to be an ever increasing part of today's busy society; occurring as a result of a single traumatic experience or sustained exposure to high levels of stress. It can happen at any time in your life, but it is often associated with childhood experiences.
The body's mechanism for dealing with anxiety is the "fight or flight" response; increased heart rate, release of adrenalin and other chemicals in to the blood stream and hyper-ventilation. All too often, either option appears unavailable, or the body is subject to sustained periods of stressful stimulus, and so anxiety results.
There are a wide range of physiological and psychological conditions associated with sustained anxiety ranging from skin conditions, headaches, palpitations and panic disorder. In many cases, hypnosis can provide complete relief or help to develop more effective coping strategies.

Smoking

The desperate plight of some smokers has led them to try many different ways of giving up the habit. For many, despite being their last resort, hypnosis has been very effective.
Stopping smoking by hypnosis is usually a single session process with a high degree of success; reported rates of between 80 and 85%. For those who require a little extra assistance a further session is offered (smoking only) free.
Don't be discouraged by earlier attempts to stop. According to NHS statistics few people are successful on their first attempt. How ever you choose to kick that filthy habit; good luck! The secret of success is choosing to be a non-smoker and the benefits of a smoke free life.

Weight Control

Hypnotic intervention can be very successful in modifying the behaviour and attitude of an individual who is seeking to moderate their eating patterns and so gain control of their weight.
There are many psychological factors which may be present which render extreme and faddy diets useless or even harmful.
The approach will vary from patient to patient depending upon the underlying causes; i.e. a patient who was taught in childhood not to waste food may continue to overeat through habit or feelings of guilt.
A patient may be unconsciously using their weight as a protective mechanism for eliminating unwanted sexual attention, or as an unconscious manifestation of a low self esteem.
A thorough case history will usually indicate the appropriate therapeutic method to be used.
Hypnotherapy deals with the person, not the calories, and works towards a modified attitude to life, not just diet.

Alcohol and Drug Addiction

Inappropriate use of substances such as alcohol can result in all manner of problems, both physical and psychological. In some cases, other forms of intervention and de-toxification are required before hypnotherapy can be used. Because of the nature of hypnosis, patients presenting for alcohol or drug related problems must be sober / clean for treatment to be given. A wide range of approaches is available to address the compulsive and habitual behaviours as well as dealing with any underlying causes and development of more appropriate coping strategies.

Nail Biting

Nail biting is often considered to be the tail end of a childhood habit, and the treatment is quite simple and straight forward (usually a single session); but the impact of unsightly fingers and the risk of infection caused by excessive chewing of the nails and skin around the nails should not be under estimated. Imagine how much more confident a person with healthy looking, well cared for hands, is going to appear (and feel).

Inhibitions

Boost your confidence, overcome shyness and be the person that you want to be, whether in your career, in relationships or social situations. You need never be lost for the right thing to say ever again.

Guilt

Freud considered shame and guilt as the two most powerful emotions in the development of neurosis. Hypnotherapy deals with past events constructively, allowing you to learn the lessons but leave behind unhelpful feelings and responses.

Psycho-Sexual Problems

Problems such as premature ejaculation , erectile dysfunction, anorgasmia and frigidity respond well to hypnotherapy. Treatment often involves enhancing performance, boosting confidence and dealing with underlying problems that are negatively influencing sexual performance.

Insomnia

Lack of sleep can prove very distressing and debilitating for sufferers. The causes of disturbed sleep are wide ranging, and can be physical as well as psychological in origin. As part of therapy I teach self-hypnosis, the regular practice of which will help breakdown the habitual responses to not sleeping as well as having restorative benefits.
